Green Driving Tips
Here are some tips that will help you be more ecologically friendly whilst driving
Reduce drag and wind resistance. Where possible drive with the windows up to reduce drag, also remove roof racks –as the wind resistance dramatically increases fuel consumption. As does carrying unnecessary items in the boot of your car.
Go easy on the Air Con. Turn off the air-conditioning unless you really need it – air-conditioning compressors increase fuel consumption by about 10%
Plan your journey ahead This will help avoid congestion, roadworks and getting lost, all cutting down on the amount of fuel you use, plus if you travel at a quiet time of day, it could take half as long as a during rush hour
Slow down Driving at 50-60 mph means your emissions will be lowest. Driving over 70mph will rapidly increase your emissions. It can cost you up to 25% more in fuel to drive at 70mph compared to 50mph. Also Avoid unnecessary revving or idling of the engine as this uses more fuel and Harsh acceleration and braking can use up to 30% more fuel and can cause increased wear and tear on the vehicle
Check your tyres Ensure that you have the correct tyre pressure. Every 6psi the tyre is under-inflated the fuel consumption increases by 1%.
